When does a photo tell you more about the photographer than it does the subject?

I think all good photographs tell you something about the photographer, but I think they are telling about the subject through their eyes. I think that is why we develop and affinity for certain photos and photographers. They see the world like we do or like we wish we would.

Self-portraits and selfies certainly tell you a lot about the photographer. But they also tell you quite a bit about how the photographer sees the world, especially themselves. So is it about the subject or the photographer?

What happens when you don't like the subject of a photo, nor do you like the view that the photographer has given you? You probably move on and you don't think much more about it.

If you like the subject but not the view, I think that tells you that you don't the like the photographer.
